Writing Seminar B

Writing Seminar B happens after the CAHSEE, so we no longer have to do the weekly on-demand essays, or work out of the Measuring Up workbook. As with Writing Seminar A, I use this class as an addendum to 10th Grade English. During the first half of this quarter, we focus mainly on the ancient Greek play, Antigone, as well as various exercises based on it that appear in the Springboard workbook. In the second half of the quarter, we (in my opinion) save the best for last: Shakespeare's Macbeth. Once again, we "tackle" one of the truly great works of literature that can really move students forward in their education and prepare them for the kind of literature they will encounter in college. We finish out the year with options for a final project that include student-directed scenes from the play, or a literary essay on important aspects of Macbeth, or a "traditional" final exam.
