FAQ - Work Permits

Frequently Asked Questions?
Keep in mind that the qualifications for a work permit are NOT Poly rules, they are dictated by the State of California - Qualifications are officially mandated by LAW.
These are REAL questions ASKED BY POLY students:
  1. CAN MY PERMIT BE TAKEN AWAY? YES, YOUR PERMIT CAN BE REVOKED. IF YOUR TARDIES AND ABSENCES INCREASE AND YOU NO LONGER MEET THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE WORK PERMIT - YOUR PERMIT CAN BE CANCELED.
  2. Do Progress Grades Count?  No.  The only grades that can be used to determine if you qualify for a work permit are Official Grades (Which are given at the end of each semester.)
  3. Do you look at tardies? Yes.  In reviewing your overall attendance, Coordinator will review absences AND tardies.  If you are missing class instruction due to absences or tardies which exceed the state guidelines, your permit will be denied.
  4. Do I get the permit before or after I get a job?  You FIRST apply for, interview and secure a job.  Then your employer will request a work permit.  Work permitsre required from all minors.
  5. Where can I go for a job?  Feel free to stop by Rm38 - I have a bulletin board with locations of places that have recently hired Poly students. Also look HERE on the Poly website for any recent job posting - all posting have been shared on Schoology as well.
  6. What happens if I need a permit when the school is closed - like during summer? You will need to go DOWNTOWN to the district office and speak to the work experience office.
