(Concentrator) Child Development/1: Foundation (g) (62-15-73)
This course is the first competence-based course in a sequence of three in the child development pathway. It is the study of developmental stages of children from conception through preschool years. Student’s will gain research and writing skills as they explore, investigate, and synthesis major theories of development and their application including emotional, psychological, cognitive, and physical development. Student’s will engage in project-based learning and field experiences with young children, as well as discuss and learn about workplace safety policies and procedures incorporated with techniques in communication, critical thinking, and employability skills. This course will prepare students interested in careers with children to be better prepared for the field, as well as post-secondary education.

(Concentrator) Child Development/2: Curriculum (g) (62-15-74)
This course is the second competency-based course in a sequence of three in the Child Development pathway. Students will learn and apply theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the development, teaching and guidance of children. Students will be prepared to work with children after high school graduation and will be better prepared to pursue post-secondary education in careers working with children. Students will gain additional research and writing skills as they explore the developmental principles and practices of effective classroom management, effective teaching methods, curriculum planning and positive guidance. Students will participate in project-based learning and experiences as part of the lesson planning, delivery, and evaluation of play-based curricular activities in health, arts, language arts, math, science, social studies, and play curriculum.
 
(Capstone) Child Development Principles & Practice A/B (g) (62-15-71/72)
This is a comprehensive study of the developmental stages of children from conception through pre-adolescence including the major theorists and principle theories of development and their application. Through research, writing, project-based learning, group projects, lectures, and films, students will learn, synthesize and apply theoretical knowledge in the developmental principles and developmentally appropriate practices of effective classroom management, effective teaching methods, curriculum planning, effective communication and positive guidance. Students will implement and participate in curricular experiences as part of lesson planning, delivery and evaluation of play-based curriculum.
