English 10B
Course Description
I am currently teaching three sections of English 10B, one of them is honors. It is crucial that you realize English 10B is a requirement for graduation from high school. Any student who gets a D or an F will have to repeat the class in order to graduate, and opportunities for repeating classes are becoming scarce because of California's fiscal situation.
This term, the focus will be on literary analysis. We will read a selection of poetry, as well as Ray Bradbury's novel Fahrenheit 451. Along the way, there will be CAHSEE/CST-style tests on the novel, and the culminating assignment will be an essay analyzing the interactions of the major characters, and these interactions' effect on the main character. We will also cover grammar topics such as commas.
The honors section will be doing an additional essay on John Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men.
