hey Polly. welcome back to new episode of the Polytech where your host for today's episode on Jasmine and I mean yeah it really makes me think of you for a long time till about the change we should go ask them a most memorable moments as a teacher here was when my film students got to do a film festival for horror films and 2013 our football team went to the city championship lose but it was memorable for me because my son played on the team so I got to spend time with him and they're in that experience here at Paulie but to see everybody come out and support Polly that day was was amazing for me but a lot of memorable moments since I've been here but what's that one that really stands out was when I performed in the 2015 teacher lip sync in our old Auditorium to decorate our door our class today USC College door and I was very surprised that we've chosen to end and we were very happy most memorable members will probably be meeting for missing at different places around the city I mean Neptune's in Pasadena Glendale it's all over and just the fact that they remember me that was very memorable my happiest moment was when I figured out how to start the thermite demo using a drop of water and and not only that but that very same week it was raining and I figured out how to do it using the actual rain and just lifting a lid off and letting those rain start it has to be the first graduating class I had so I started back in 08 and the graduating class for class of 2012 was this great group of kids but I had known them since 9th grade I had followed them along and so is really special to see them across the stage and be part of this moment of their lives and it was beautiful Fox doing here what are you doing did you hear what the police told you I for Christmas adopt a student is a community outreach that we started last you're actually just give back to the community when we do toy drives we didn't necessarily know where the money went we rich awareness through various platforms like Instagram schoology but we also created this lovely born back here where we play the wish list of the students and during lunch after school and before school we allowed students staff to come by and she was a wish list so I'll double soon hello contributors one of them being back in America other than being a lot of staff are the students themselves the adopted student killer chosen through their after-school program before I came to work for a nonprofit organization call Alice pass this is a program that gives back to the parents and the community that they they just offer a lot of resources to our little school that parents can pick him up at work or something else so those are as soon as we've had a higher need the kids are always so happy and so playful and you can just see their big smiles on their face how excited they get adopting this student and Chris's holiday spirit because they it's a school white thing where everyone students parents even the commune get some Bob and everyone's welcome to participate and adopt a student and get back to her local elementary school's affirmative actions gone what's up 76th and Moore affirmative action was a policy that was meant to Aid low-income minority students in the pursuit for college originally meant for the workforce and later and knocked it into education in 1978 but in 2023 killed an attempt to rid of any reverse discrimination to policy gave way to but was it really causing more harm than good many other use his staff have differing opinions on this matter so for them where is the line between equality and discrimination affirmative action is a policy that was initiated into Olivier past discrimination by giving preferential treatment to certain minority identified minority groups in order to boost their numbers in the university and diversify the word I don't think affirmative action actually benefited minorities I think that you know the marginal cases maybe they gave a boost to some students but those were excellent in their subject area I got accepted to college anyway I think affirmative action probably hurt more than help because it led to resentment and many people who didn't get accepted to college or fail to there was reverse discrimination the original way that affirmative action was applied strictly based on race or ethnicity did not appear to be fair but you know you're asking students to be part of all these activities and all these programs were soon as an apple in high school for students who have families to make a income they have those opportunities because they're afford it and so they have access to all these activities and their college applications are going to be full of all these activities versus the student who's taking care to a ride to get home or they can stay after school for the activities because they have to take care of your siblings and I'm just worried was going to happen to our community and our black students are letting next to it is we're going to happen to them to perception of the students being asked a poly alumni who was a part of the last graduating class of students affected by A Primitive action or currency will never experience the positives of the policy show you the entire being a sociopath gender sexual orientation. There's so many more things that you take into consideration when you are talking about a person because people are multi-layer focusing on kind of limit what you see about another person definitely a lot more is that it can really encourage students who didn't think they had a chance before the percentage of enough to know that they too can go to competitive colleges and that they have a chance and it really does internally like put us at a disadvantage is gone now the only thing left for you to do is stress run ability when applying to college because true quality Rises to the surface no matter the reputation of the school that you attend will it be Community College at Cal State or university as long as you put in the effort you will be noticed and you will succeed I really want to soccer ball for Christmas we should go ask them to go ask people what they want and what do you do during their winter break and we have our Randy here to help Randy what do you want for Christmas carrots what do you want for Christmas everything that's happiness and good health.
