Welcome Message
" Mathematics is not about numbers, equations, or algorithms; it is about understanding. " - William Paul Thurston
Welcome to our class website! This page is designed to support students and keep parents informed about what we are learning in Algebra and Statistics as part of the Magnet Program in Mathematics, Science, and Technology.
Our Magnet program encourages students to develop strong analytical thinking, scientific reasoning, and problem-solving skills. Mathematics serves as a foundation for understanding concepts in science, engineering, data analysis, and technology, and students will engage in activities that connect mathematical ideas to real-world applications.
Course Focus
Algebra
Students will develop mathematical reasoning and problem-solving skills through topics such as:
- Linear Equations and Systems of Equations
- Quadratic Functions and expressions
- Exponents and Radicals
- Rational and Irrational Numbers
- Mathematical Modelling and real-world problem solving
These concepts help students build the foundation needed for advanced studies in science, technology, and engineering fields.
Statistics
Students will learn how to analyze and interpret data using statistical reasoning, including:
- Data displays and distributions
- Measures of center and variability
- Density curves and normal distribution
- Probability and statistical reasoning
- Interpreting data used in science and technology
Statistics helps students understand how data is used in research, scientific investigations, and technological innovation.
Expectations for Students
To succeed in this course, students are expected to:
- Participate actively in class discussions and problem-solving activities
- Explain and justify mathematical reasoning
- Complete assignments on time
- Demonstrate curiosity and perseverance in solving challenging problems
- Contribute to a respectful and collaborative learning environment
