School for Advanced Studies

To qualify for the SAS program, students must meet one of the following criteria:

Be identified as gifted by LAUSD in the Intellectual, High Achievement, Specific Academic, Creative, or Leadership Ability category.

Score in the Standard Exceeded range on the SBAC assessment.

Earn a national percentile score of 85 or higher in both reading and math on a nationally normed achievement test (most recent year only);

Be verified by the current school of attendance as meeting the four critical thinking and problem-solving skills criteria.
Students must also reside within LAUSD boundaries at the time of application and while participating in the program.
The Poly High School Schools for Advanced Studies (SAS) program is excited to welcome you to a new school year filled with Poly Pride! I am Ms. Yesenia Pleitez, the SAS Coordinator, and I am here to support you throughout your high school journey.
Our team works closely with students and families to provide a comprehensive program that empowers students academically, socially, and emotionally while preparing them for college and career success. You are an important part of our program, and we look forward to assisting you with academic planning, personal and social development, and college and career guidance.
The SAS program’s goal is to provide personalized counseling and guidance to help students reach their full potential, offering socio-emotional support and promoting college and career readiness.
Academic Requirements
To advance through high school, students must earn a specific number of credits each year:

9th to 10th grade: 50 credits

10th to 11th grade: 105 credits

11th to 12th grade: 160 credits
To graduate, students must earn 210 credits in required courses and complete non-course requirements, including:

Identifying a career pathway

Completing a service-learning project
Graduation Planning
Your counselor will review your Individualized Graduation Plan (IGP) in the fall and meet with you in the spring to ensure you are on track to meet all graduation requirements and are prepared for college and career opportunities.

SAS PROGRAM RESOURCES
Students interested in applying after the on-time application window for next school year:
- Choices Programs & Zones of Choice accept late applications for the next school year beginning in February through mid-September, annually.
- Open Enrollment accepts late applications for the next school year from early June through mid-September, annually.
Late applications are added to the school’s waitlist in the order received. The school will contact you if they have space and your child is next on the waitlist.
