REGISTERING FOR THE SAT AND ACT TESTS

Juniors! If you want to attend a four-year university, you should take your first SAT/ACT Reasoning test in your junior year, March and April and SAT Subject test in June. DO NOT wait until your senior year to take your first SAT/ACT.

Seniors! You need to take the SAT and/or ACT by December of your senior year. This will give you three more times in the fall to sign up for the SAT (and the SAT Subject Tests if you are applying to UC’S or highly selective colleges.)

Sign up by September 10, deadline for the October 6 test; by October 2 for the November 3 test; and by October 30 for the December 1 test. Most colleges want your tests to be taken by December, and some want them taken even sooner, so check with the colleges to which you are applying to make sure you are taking your tests on time,

You can find out your SAT scores online before they are mailed to you! Scores for each SAT are available approximately two weeks after the test.

If you are taking the ACT (an alternative to the SAT accepted by most colleges) you need to meet these deadlines; sign up by August 10 for the September 15 test; by September 21 for the October 27 test; and by November 2 for the December 8 test,

If you are on the federal lunch program (you get free or reduced price lunch tickets,) you can get a fee waiver so that you do not have to pay for your SAT or ACT tests. If you need a fee waiver, come to the college office to get one.

The easiest and fastest way to sign up to take these tests is online. (www.collegeboard.com or www.actstudent.org ) Before you sign up come to the college office to see if you are eligible for a fee waiver so you do not have to pay for the test. You can also register by mail in a registration bulletin, but it takes longer to find out your test scores, Choose a center that is close to your house, because you will be getting up early on a Saturday morning to take these tests.

There are free test prep sites on the Internet that I have linked in College Counselor website and study materials can be picked up in the College Center.
