World Lit - Period 1 Assignments

All assignments were collected that were outstanding:
--2 misc. assignments with stamps; book tracker from ssr; and STUDY GUIDE for BNW.

--In class we finished reading chp. 17 & 18 and completed BNW work. There will not be any more papers collected unless you didn't have stamped papers with you today.

TOMORROW is the BNW final exam including the department final.

Today on 6/5:

1) Last journal stamped and all of them turned in.
2) BNW Chp.s 13 & 14/16 also collected.
3) Finished "The Island" and turned in sheet with that.
4) Groups began reading Chp. 17 and received 2 handouts....

HW = Chapter 17! (Who Said It and Chp. 17 Questions)

Today on 6/4:

Chp. 16 stamped today.

We finished all but about 6 minutes of "The Island." Your journal response will be numbered as though you are doing it as a warm up. So I think you're on #8 or 9?

Journal: Assume Merrick has not died, although you saw him die. You have to think critically here....what would he say that he was doing that was right? (That's the essence of the journal handout you received).

HW = Be sure you are done with chp. 16 reading as we will start 17 tomorrow of BNW. (WE'RE ALMOST DONE WITH THE BOOK! :) ).

Today on 6/1:

HW Stamped (chps. 14 & 15 of BNW Handout)

1) BNW Notes: Chps. 14 & 15
2) Began watching "The Island" which ties in very closely with BNW.

HW = Read chp. 16 on your own and complete handout for this chapter. Due on MONDAY.
Reminder: Bring your papers/journals/etc. next week so I can start collecting some of the ungraded work.

2) Discussion on chps. 12 and 13.

2) Finished Gattaca and turned in handout to go with the movie.

1) Read LA Times article "Asian Women's Eggs" - can use article in your research paper if appliable.

2) Began "Gattaca" movie that parallels BNW

HW = Section II of Outline/Research Paper

Today on 5/11:

1) COMPUTER LAB - Sources checked. Be sure you cut and past the outline given on the previous day (see homework website) and have that ready on Tuesday. You are focusing only on section II of the outline.

**So, what should you do first? Well, first you should read the sources. Then as you find information that is applicable to the 6 questions on section II of outline...add the information under each section. BE SURE TO STATE SOURCE SO YOU DON'T HAVE TO KEEP LOOKING FOR INFORMATION!

**Also, be sure to add #7 to outline (What is the controversy...pro/con) of your topic. If you look on this link below I have made it #6 already.

This will be due Tuesday!! You are not doing section I or III of outline for Tuesday.

Today on 4/26:

2) Journal: What happens when the beliefs of an individual are in conflict with society?
3) BNW: Finished chp. 1 and read all of chp. 2. Notes given on chp. 1 and chp. 2.

HW = Run-ons - Exercise A only. Cross out the instructions on pg. 4. Directions should say, "Please correct the following run-on sentences on this paper." So - fix the run-ons directly on the handout.

Also, Simon's Saga (a packet containing 9-11) was handed out. You are to complete only episode 9 BY Monday.

3) BNW - Read almost all of chapter 1 with post it notes.
