Attendance FAQ

  1. How will I know if my student is marked absent?

Each day the ConnectEd notification system will call the designated primary guardian for each student that is absent to one or more class periods.

  2. How do I justify or "clear" an absence? Parents and Guardians justify all absences through a handwritten note or phone call to the Attendance Office, 818-394-3611.   For students who were hospitalized, a doctor’s note is required. Justifications must be submitted on the day the student returns to school. If your student will be out for an extended period of time please notify us ASAP and include the expected return date on note. The following information needs to be submitted to the attendance office to verify the absence. If your child is currently attending the Freshman Center, forms should be submitted to the Freshman Center Main Office.
    • Student Name
    • Student Birth Date
    • Date(s) & Period(s) of Absence
    • Reason for Absence
    • Parent/Guardian Name & Signature
    • Parent/Guardian Phone Number
    • Expected Return Date if applicable

  3. Does my child need a note if they are late to school?

Yes, the student needs a note with the same information required for an absence.  You may fill out the following form and submit it to the Attendance Office.  If your child is currently attending the Freshman Center, forms should be submitted to the Freshman Center Main Office.

    Tardy Clearance Form

  4. What if I know my child was at school but was marked absent?

If the absence was marked in error, send your student to the Attendance Office to pick up a correction form for the teacher to sign. If your child is currently attending the Freshman Center, forms should be submitted to the Freshman Center Main Office. Teacher signature is needed to make changes to attendance. You may also access the form through the following link:

  5. Why do I still get an automated call when my student arrives late or I check him out early?

ConnectEd calls are generated automatically based on classroom attendance submitted by the teacher. Changes made to the attendance records may not reflect until after the phone calls are generated. You may call 818-394-3611 to verify if your student arrived late or missed class. If your child is currently attending the Freshman Center, contact the Freshman Center Main Office at 818-759-5800.

  6. My student was out for a school-sponsored event/activity, why did I still get a call about the absence?

School sponsored activities can only be cleared by school officials and are documented at the end of the school day when attendance for the field trip is submitted by the sponsor. Missed class for school sponsored activities does not count as an absence for students.

  7. What absences are excused? What absences are unexcused?

Please keep in mind that justifying or “clearing” an absence does not remove it from the total number of absence for the student.
