Attedance Policy
We need your help to improve your student attendance. Please review Poly's Attendance Policy with your child. Every day that a student is absent for an unacceptable reason, Poly loses $40.00. We lose over $1,000.00 a day because students are absent for unacceptable reasons.
- When your child is absent from school, he/she must bring a note stating an acceptable reason for his/her absence. The not must include the student's name, date of absence, and parent signature.
- Any absence who does not bring a note will be required to contact a parent
by phone to verify the reason for absences before being readmitted to class.
If a parent cannot be reached, the student will be given detention.
- Absences must be kept to a minimum and must be acceptable reasons.
- Acceptable reasons for missing a full day or more of school:
- Illness
- Funeral of an immediate family member-only one day if in California and three days if out of state.
- Personal Reasons or Personal Problems are NOT acceptable reasons for absences.
- Acceptable part - day reasons - not good reasons miss the entire day.
- Medical Appointment
- Dental Appointment
- All other reasons for absence are unacceptable.
- Other types of appointments must be scheduled for after school.
- Vacations must be scheduled when school is not in session.
- If your child will be absent for more than 3 consecutive days,
you must notify the attendance of the reason and the date of return.
- If your child is leaving the country and will be absent from school
for more than two weeks, please notify the Attendance Office.
- If your child will be out of school for more than 5 days because of
medical reasons, you must call the school to arrange for a special study
program.
(Copies have been sent home to seniors. Additional copies are available in the Attendance Office.)
- Students will lose graduation privileges once they exceed 16 absences.
- Extending circumstances may be appealed to the Attendance Review Committee.
I have read the above and understand my responsibilities with regard to policies and procedures of attendance and readmission.
